The new A7 processor, built-in iPhone 5S available since today is manufactured by Samsung. Chipworks conducted its investigation by looking into the interior of the phone to reach this conclusion. Apple has, again, used its Korean rival for 2013. As a reminder, Samsung has occupied A4, A5, A6 and A7 processors.
This revelation is itself a surprise. In fact, Apple had announced to change its tune and go with TSMC to move away from Samsung. A contract has also been signed between the two companies. The manufacturer of the Galaxy, among others, is now Apple's main competitor. It won the market shares around the world. It is therefore logical that all means are implemented to stay away from it. But when one partner is good, it is difficult to look elsewhere. For example, the latest rumors announcing that Apple would use Samsung screens for the iPad mini 2 after some problems with AUO.
Besides the A7 processor, Chipworks has also found the M7 coprocessor. It is designed to measure the motion data from the accelerometer, the gyroscope and the compass. It relieves the A7 processor. It is not manufactured by Samsung but by NXP.
