VLC Come Back Strong To App Store

VLC will return to the AppStore, two years after being withdrawn because of a nasty licensing issue that broke out in 2011. Last November, there was already a talk about a possible return, which will ultimately effective in a few hours, the time that the application spreads through all stores in the world. According to MacStories that could test the app, the interface is very similar to the old version, however, the entire engine has been rewritten in order to read the file formats supported by the desktop version, including MKV.

Among the new features, we find an upload through wi-fi option to upload files from a desktop browser hooked to the same local network. It will be possible to download a file from a web server, simply by entering the URL of the file. Sharing with iTunes and Dropbox is also present. Other storage services in the cloud will be offered in the future. A password may be added to protect the videos loaded on the terminal.

In terms of video playback, several refinements have been implemented as the playback speed, real-time filters (blur, contrast, gamma ...), a system of subtitle. The audio recordings can be played in the background. VLC for iOS is fully open source, the code will be available tomorrow and pledged a "dual license": Mozilla Public License v2 and General Public License v2. This time, the licensing issues should not have any reason with the software.
