When you tap on it, you will get a tabbed interface that shows you information such as the total amount of messages sent and received, the total amount of messages received, and the total amount of messages sent.

TypeStatus displays an icon on your Status Bar when someone begins composing an iMessage to you. The icon looks like a chat bubble with an ellipsis inside of it. As long as the typist is composing their message, the icon will show up in the Status Bar, but as soon as they stop typing, or send the message, the icon will stop appearing.
