Some celebrities and other influencers are testing a new Twitter app with a different tune. Twitter has been preparing a music app that integrates with the service, says American Idol host Ryan Seacrest and technology site AllThingsD.
Yesterday, Seacrest (or @RyanSeacrest) tweeted that he was “playing with @twitter’s new music app (yes it’s real!)…there’s a serious dance party happening at idol right now.” According to AllThingsD, the iPhone app, which will suggest artists and songs based on who you follow on Twitter, is available now but only for “really famous” individuals, like Seacrest. It will be out for all of us, non-celebrities next week.
The service’s website – https://music.twitter.com/ – is live now, but is locked for general users. The app, according to another Seacrest tweet, shows trending artists and up-and-coming groups. It also allows you to listen to music clips in the app through services like iTunes and SoundCloud. Twitter did not respond to ABC News’ request for comment about the new music service speculation.
Yesterday Twitter announced via Twitter that it has acquired “We Are Hunted,” a music recommendation and streaming company based in Australia. “While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team,”the We Are Hunted team wrote on its site. The app is being rolled out to music industry influencers and others to coincide with the Coachella music festival, which is being held this weekend in Palm Springs, Calif.
Twitter has released a number of updates to its iPhone and Android apps in recent months, including adding photo filters, similar to Instagram. The company released Vine, a six-second video sharing app for the iPhone, last month.
