Motorola Reveals Project Ara , A SmartPhone That Will Last For Ever

Motorola has unveiled  on its blog a project of modular smartphone, Ara, an ecosystem of smartphone that can be designed according to the parts required for the user.

Certainly, the concepts of modular smartphones are on the rise. After the concept of Sony smartphone designed by Francois Rybarczyk and Phonebloks idea based on a grid, to adjust its smartphone according to user's needs Motorola is pursuing the idea.

The American firm, acquired by Google last year, has indeed presented on its blog its Ara, a modular smartphone project. The concept of Ara Project is held on a base, called Endo by Motorola for "endoskeleton" on which several modules may be added based on user needs. The advantage for the user might be, not to have to change all his smartphone when a single component fails, or if he need better performance.

"Project Ara is developing a free, open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones. We want to do for hardware what the Android platform has done for software" said Motorola on its blog. For this, the U.S. firm announced working in partnership with the designer behind the concept of Phonebloks. If the manufacturer Motorola has launched the Ara project, as well as Google supports Android, the American company relies on the support of other developers and other manufacturers to follow.

In the coming months, Motorola will send invitations to developers to help in the development of the modules. The module development kit (MDK) will be available in the winter.
